DrinkWell has a wide selection of vegan wines that are created using zero animal products throughout the wine-making process. We've done the hard work for you, assembling a collection of vegan wines of all varieties that refuse to compromise on taste or flavour. Many of our vegan wines are also low in sugar and carbohydrates, whilst also being reduced calorie.
Are all wines vegan?
No. Not all wine is vegan and many wouldn’t even be considered vegetarian. Just because wine is made from grapes doesn’t automatically make it suitable. Fining agents are used during the wine-making process which helps to remove unwanted material from the wine while still in the cellar. The fining agents that are traditionally used tend to contain animal products, this can include gelatine (protein from pig skins or animal bones), isinglass (fish bladders) or casein (milk protein).
What makes DrinkWell vegan wines vegan?
At DrinkWell, our vegan wines have simply been made using zero animal products throughout the winemaking process. Instead of using the traditional fining agents, some winemakers can leave particles to sink naturally to the bottom of the wine or use non-animal fining products.
How can you tell if wine is vegan?
It can certainly be difficult knowing if a wine is vegan or not as there are still many bottles out there that don’t add ‘vegan’ to their label. However, it is not a legal requirement to list all fining agents on the bottle. We clearly display whether or not our alcohol is vegan friendly on the product page of every bottle.
Does vegan wine taste different?
No! There is no difference in flavour as the animal products that are in traditional fining agents have no impact on the overall taste.
