Best Sparkling Wine for Christmas and New Year

glass of sparkling wine

If Champagne isn't on your list this year — whether for budget reasons or because you'd rather spend the money on something you'll actually enjoy — the good news is that the lower-calorie sparkling wines available at DrinkWell are genuinely excellent. Zero sugar, full-strength, and award-winning. Here are our recommendations for seeing in the New Year.

Skinny Witch Prosecco Brut DOCG

Our most popular sparkling wine by some margin. Made in Italy from hand-picked Glera grapes from the Conegliano DOCG, Skinny Witch achieves 0g of sugar and just 80 kcal per 125ml without any artificial intervention — the zero-sugar character comes from using more grapes and a specific winemaking process, not from stripping the wine back. The nose is citrus, violet, and white cherry; the palate is fresh, green apple and pear, with a hint of citrus on the finish. 11.5% ABV. Award-winning.

Skinny Witch Prosecco Brut DOCG — £16.99 per bottle. Also available in: Skinny Witch Prosecco Rosé — 80 kcal, 0g sugar, 11% ABV, £16.99.

Mas Macia Cava Brut Nature Reserva

Cava Brut Nature is the driest classification in sparkling wine — 0–3g of residual sugar per litre, with no dosage added. Mas Macia's Reserva is made by the traditional method in Penedès, Spain, spending a minimum of 15 months on lees for complexity and depth. The result is a refined, toasty sparkling wine with crisp green apple, citrus zest, and a long mineral finish. 78 kcal per 125ml, 0g sugar, 11.5% ABV.

Mas Macia Cava Brut Nature Reserva — £14.99 per bottle.
